JUST a Nurse

Some of them would say they are superhumans. They work as vet techs, nurses, or vet assistants. They are passionate, caring, and devote their lives to helping animals. You may wonder how they do it, and sometimes you even ask. Well, they can do it because someone has to and it might as well be them.

Today, we would like to give our appreciation and thanks to our nursing team. They are the most driven, selfless, and kind-hearted people this world has to offer. Without them, we cannot function as a team, and for us, they are not JUST NURSES.

They are our nurses, whose sleepless nights are spent ensuring your pet’s vitals. It’s their eyes and ears that are constantly alert for any significant changes, and it is just their knowledge and instinct that alerts the vet to any red flags.

They wear the stethoscope like a necklace, their pockets are filled with thermometers, scissors, markers, and pens and if it’s towards the end of the shift, you won’t want to know what else they might be wearing on their scrubs. They’re just always the ones that are victims of urine, feces, and anal gland fluids. Yes, you heard it right, they are always first in line.

They are just a fluid slinging, medication-delivering, anesthetic-monitoring, bed-changing, wee-walking, wound cleaning vet nurse. They’re just the ones who get to cuddle your pet when scared or disorientated and the first to see the improvements from the treatments that they have been managing and delivering. They’re just the ones who wrestle with your big boy to the x-ray table, who runs the blood tests, explains the medication by the time of discharge, and do the nasty stuff you can ever imagine. Yes, they are just nurses who promised your pets that you’d be back for them.

You can see them just like that, but our nurses are your carers and rehabilitators. They will give up spending time with their family and get called to the clinic to take care of an incoming emergency – whatever day or hour. Nurses take care of your pets as if they were their own and when it’s time for them to go home, they offer you all the support and advice you need to continue the care and help to keep them healthy and happy.

So, before you say the words “only a nurse”, “he is just a nurse”, think twice… they are our NURSES, our CHAMPIONS.
